Dipping Snuff - Jaw Pain?

Kinda new at this. I've been dipping snuff for about 6 months now. I found it calmed me down a great deal so I enjoyed that feeling. Problem now is where i normally place the dip on the side of my jaw it has now become very sore. Is this normal? Is this cancer? Why is my jaw hurting like this? Will it go away? Yes i knew the risks but wasn't planning on dipping for the rest of my life. Also... Can nicotine patches do the same for me as a dip can with the calming affect?
