If you miss time of work and are fired can you be denied unemployment?

I have Graves Disease, started a job and missed a few days for that. Missed a few days for a death in my family and then got strep throat and missed time. The employer (Contract job) told me that I didn't do the job up-to snuff. They said my work wasn't up-to-par and I had unexecused time off.
